Snails!

After many dry days we finally had a bit of rain yesterday. When it ended we ventured outside where Ben discovered all the snails that the rain brought out. He collected them, lined them up and then watched as they slimed their separate ways off the patio. Watching him so facinated by these funny little creatures brought back memories of when I too would collect them and want to keep them as pets - not like now when I put them in a plastic bag or scatter bait for them. I realized yesterday that I've come to see them merely as DOMPs - Destroyers Of My Plants. It was refreshing to get up close and personal with Ben's snails and get to know them all over again. Although I'm sure they all headed for the nearest hosta for a snack, I'm going to find it a lot harder to simply get rid of them now. What a joy it is experience life through the eyes of a child!

I tried to have the slide show play here, but it won't load on Blogger (or maybe it's just me?) Here's the link to the slide show with more photos: http://tinyurl.com/22v4u5

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality.

I love the snail photos. My sister and I would collect them as children and make them 'homes'. I had completely forgotten about that until I read your story :)
