The difference a few days make...

A week ago we found out we were expecting. I was pregnant. We were excited about the idea that Ben would have a little brother or sister. We couldn't help ourselves and started to share the good news. Unfortunately, I miscarried yesterday. It was still early - 6 weeks, and so the miscarriage wasn't as rough as the one I had last year which was a month further along. We're disappointed but we trust God that all is just as it should be, for reasons we can't understand. We're grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. We know life is precious and this experience makes of even more aware of the miracle that each of our lives are. Each of us has significance and worth to God and to others. There are no "accidents" in God's economy - although we can not always comprehend it.

It's a beautiful spring day. Tulips and daffodils are blooming everywhere. Mother's Day is just around the corner. Regardless of our gender or our lot in life, the two things we all have in common is that each of us had mothers and each of us can be mothers in some form to someone. My own family experience was close to idyllic - we were raised by a mother who stayed home with her family and who still loves us dearly. Yet there were many other friends in my life in the past and even now who "mother" me - and I love them for it! As Mother's Day nears we have endless opportunities to "mother" others - to model and mentor, to comfort and encourage, to help and heal. What a honour and what a responsibility!

"To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world."
